Jozina Johanna
One of the things that always strikes us is the vast array of projects that float through the Amsterdam Yacht Service facilities, from classic sailing superyachts to commercial vessels, tourist boats, and even bridge components. It’s this diversity of work that not only demonstrates the broad base of skills that we offer but also keeps things interesting.
This summer we welcomed another fascinating project – a 23.95-metre sailing yacht called Jozina Johanna. Ostensibly she came in for a straightforward job, namely replacement of two saildrive units. But with a bit of a wait period for the new units to arrive, her owner asked what else we could do – to which our answer, of course, was we could do anything! With that, the owner gave us an extended list that included some hull and deck paint repairs, repair and replacement of hull ports and main deckhouse windows along with replacing the gas struts and recaulking the fittings, stripping and repainting keel and bulb.
“It’s a really interesting story,” says Robert Binnekade, Managing Director of Amsterdam Yacht Service. “She’s a modern sloop that was built in 2013, but for the last few years her owner had been using her as his apartment. He brought her to us as he was preparing her to go proper sailing again, and of course we were able not only to help on the mechanical front but also take care of her other needs to get her fully seaworthy again.
“What started as a relatively small project soon became something much larger, with a budget 12 times the initial costing!” Binnekade continues. “And the results are palpable – now she’s once more not just a home on the water, but a proper home out at sea.”
